Analysis of close contest wins and losses for the big parties. Close contests are considered where the vote difference % of top 2 candidates are less than 10%.

AL has won majority of the close contests, closely followed by BNP.

AL has lost almost half of the close battles, whereas BNP has lost quite fewer close battles than AL.

Distribution of the vote difference % for each year shows that as years went by, election results became more polarised.

Insight

The median vote difference % increased gradually, indicating that most of the winner candidates have won by a bigger margin than that of the previous year. 2008 election had quite a lot outliers than any other previous elections.
